Attorneys from Longview’s Ward & Smith Honored Among State’s Best

LONGVEW, Texas – Texas attorneys T. John “Johnny” Ward Jr. and T. John Ward, partners in the high-stakes business litigation and intellectual property law firm of Ward & Smith, both are being recognized among the state’s top legal counsel in the exclusive 2012 Texas Super Lawyers list.

Recognized for his work in intellectual property litigation, the younger Mr. Ward is among a select group of attorneys to have been named to the Texas Super Lawyers listing each of the past 10 years.

This is the first selection for the elder Mr. Ward, who joined Ward & Smith in the fall of 2011 after 12 years as Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall. The elder Mr. Ward also is recognized in Texas Super Lawyers based on his work in intellectual property matters. In addition to his work in intellectual property cases, he also handles oil and gas litigation and serves as a mediator in a variety of cases.

“It was an honor to be selected to the inaugural Texas Super Lawyers list in 2003, and it’s somewhat humbling to realize my peers in the legal community have included me in this group for a full decade,” says the younger Mr. Ward. “Even more satisfying is being recognized alongside my father, who has more intellectual property expertise than practically anyone.”

Texas Super Lawyers selections are based on peer nominations from a pool of more than 70,000 attorneys from across the state. A panel of lawyers selected by the publication’s editors determines the final list, with less than 5 percent of Texas attorneys earning selections. The 2012 list appears in the October 2012 issues of Texas Monthly and Texas Super Lawyers magazines, and is available online atwww.superlawyers.com.

Earlier this year, Ward & Smith attorneys Claire Abernathy Henry and Wesley Hill earned selections to the Texas Rising Stars listing, honoring the state’s top up-and-coming lawyers. It was the first selection for Ms. Henry and the second for Mr. Hill.
